Walter John Sutterlin, age 64, was born on May 29, 1953 and died February 6, 2018. Born to William W. Sutterlin and Mary A. (Kiner) Sutterlin, he attended Loudonville High School. Walt Graduated from West Point in 1976. He went on to graduate from Winter Ranger School and achieved his master's while serving as a Captain and ROTC instructor at Canisius College. While starting up a family and marrying Gretchen Sutterlin, he served in the military for 11 ½ years, which included his service in the Berlin Brigade during the Cold War. He is a life member of VFW post 8586 Perrysville, OH and member of the American Legion post 257 in Loudonville. In civilian life, he provided positive influences and lasting impressions as little league baseball head coach and went on to umpire at the middle school, high school, and college level. Professionally, he established a Project Management career with the State of Ohio. He was directly involved in the leadership of reactivating and growing the Central Ohio PMI Chapter to promote Project Management certification and professional development locally. He served 4 terms as President of the Central Ohio Chapter from 1993-1995, 2003-2004, 2009-2010, and 2013. He achieved the Recognition of Excellence for Component Leadership in 2010 alone with Lifetime Achievement Award during the 2015 annual awards recognition ceremony. He is survived and will be missed by his wife, Gretchen; his sons, Robert and Josh and daughter-in-law, Kimberly; brother, William R. and sister-in-law, Deb; brother-in-law, William D. Best and sister-in-law, Jennifer; nieces and nephews; along with pets, Rascal and Missy. His family is very proud of the strength and determination only he could have given following his diagnosis of Multiple Myeloma. The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses, and staff at the James, and the team at Amber Home Care for the excellent care they provided. Calling hours will be at SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST CHAPEL, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd., Gahanna, OH 43230 on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 11am with a memorial service at 12pm.
