1925 - 2018
William A. Queen, age 92 of Upper Arlington, passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2018. William was born in Akron and grew up in Georgia, son of the late Frank and Augusta Queen. Preceded in death by his beloved wife Elizabeth Queen, son, Russell Queen, sister, Amelia Lawhorn, and brother, Jack Queen. At the young age of 17, William enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard where he proudly served during WWII along with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Newell. Upon his return home, he graduated from Kent State University and attended Law School at the University of Akron. William worked as a Sales Manager with Conagra Foods and also taught Marketing at Youngstown State University. William was a fun loving, engaging and charismatic man who left his mark on everyone he met. He was an accomplished athlete competing in several Columbus Marathons, the last one at the age of 80. He also was an accomplished artist who enjoyed painting and was an avid reader. He was a lifelong Mason, member of Star Lodge and sang in church choirs in both Poland and Akron, Ohio. He will be greatly missed by his loving daughters, Barbara (Richard) Gerber and Amelia (John) Shannon; daughter-in-law, Molly Queen; 10 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and many other extended family members and dear friends. Memorial service will be held at 1 P.M. Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd., where family will receive friends from 12 pm until time of service Wednesday. Following service, inurnment will be at Kingwood Memorial Park. William's family would like to thank the staff at Kobacker House, MedOne Nurse Practitioner Cortney Seymour, OhioHealth Hospice Nurse Lisa and Grief Counselors Sarah Phillips and Brian Ballenger for the wonderful care and compassion they gave.
