Kahler Miles A. "Mike" Kahler, age 99, passed away Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Mt. Carmel Medical Center. Born October 15, 1914 in Dola, Ohio to the late Carl and Viola (Dirmeyer) Kahler. Preceded in death by wife Rose M. Zahorec who passed January 15, 2001. Veteran U.S. Army where he served in the South Pacific during WWII; member of the 37th Infantry Division where he completed campaigns in the Fijian Islands, Guadalcanal, New Georgia, Bougainville and Manila. Miles received the Purple Heart award with Gold Leaf; member F&AM Lodge #0154 Kenton, Ohio, where he was a 32nd degree Mason. Veteran of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans. Miles was engaged in farming and the grain elevator business in Kenton, Ohio and later was engaged in farming and the excavation business in Orient, Ohio area. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Preceded in death by infant son Steven, sisters Martha Myers and Betty Stevenson and brother Richard Kahler. Survived by son, Michael (Yvonne Cox) Kahler of Ashville; daughter, Mary Jill (Randy) Smith of London; grandchildren, Stephen Kahler, David (Rheanna Moore) Kahler; and great grandsons, Miles and Rhys Kahler, all of Columbus.
