Hammer Miriam MorraLee "Mimi" (Wells) Hammer, age 82 of Logan, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2014 six days short of her birthday, at her residence. Born February 25, 1931 in Piqua, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late James Dunlap and Helen Livina (Brandt) Wells. Mimi never met anyone she disliked and was a good friend to many. She was a dedicated volunteer for the Hocking Valley Community Hospital, having been a thirty year member of the Hocking Valley Community Hospital's TWIG I with over nine-teen thousand volunteer hours. She assisted her TWIG in raising thousands of dollars each year to assist HVCH in purchasing needed hospital equipment. She often attended the annual Ohio Hospital Association Conference, representing HVCH in volunteer leadership. Mimi served as HVCH Auxiliary President from 1988 through 1990, then she served again as Vice President for a second term from 1994-1995. She served as Auxiliary Treasurer for over fifteen years. She also served from 2012 until 2014 as the Auxiliary Assistant Treasurer. In 2001, she was awarded the "Dolly Kleinschsmidt Award" for dedication of her years of service; in 2011 she was awarded the "Elly Crow Award" for going above and beyond in service to HVCH. She served for over twenty-five years on the HVCH Foundation annual auction committee, over twenty-two years as the Registration Chairman of the HVCH Foundation Golf Tournament, assisting the Foundation in raising over one million dollars. Mimi was dearly loved and known by all Hocking Valley Community Hospital employees as the "Friday" Patio Shoppe Volunteer in the HVCH Gift & Grill for over thirty-one years. She is survived by her husband of sixty-two years, Thomas L. "Tom" Hammer; two sons, Stephen (Connie) Hammer of Chandler, Arizona and Jonathan (Paula) Hammer of Powell, Ohio; two grandchildren, Rachel Beth Hammer and Dr. Matthew Ryan Hammer and one great-granddaughter, Vera Hammer. As one of nine children, she was the last surviving sibling. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers Justin "Larry" Wells, Capt. Don V. Wells and John Stanton "Butch" Wells, five sisters Dorothy L. Tucker, Phyllis J. Neely, Marjorie Holzapfel Armstrong, Verna Helber, and Roberta Myers. A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, February 23, 2014 at ROBERT FUNERAL HOME-Logan, Ohio. Friends may call from 12Noon until 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
