Mary Antoinette (Leonardi) Bendekovic

1926 - 2014 | Obituary Condolences
Mary Antoinette (Leonardi) Bendekovic Obituary
Bendekovic (Leonardi) Mary Antoinette (Leonardi) Bendekovic, 87, of Columbus, passed away Thursday at the OSU James Hospital. With close family ties to the University, she effectively died at "home," and with the presence of direct and extended family. She was born May 16, 1926 in Cleveland, Ohio. Mary was a graduate of Fenn College (now Cleveland State University) and an early professional woman in the advertising industry. But she eagerly dropped that path upon meeting husband John, and embarked on her most-cherished profession of Mother and Homemaker, roles she enjoyed since the mid '60s. Her life was rich with family-related activities, with full-focus placed on enriching her children's' lives through exposure to the most avenues her means could afford them. An avid reader and active cook, those that knew her would attest to her articulate nature, strong will, and abilities to broaden her family's life experiences through this breadth. She is preceded in death by husband John Bendekovic (d. September 2003), and sisters Tena and Grace. Survived by son, John Bendekovic III; daughter, Barbara Bendekovic; daughter-in-law Sharon; and grandchildren, John (Jack) IV, Sam and Ava Bendekovic. Also survived by sister, Cecilia; and nieces/nephews, Richard and Celene Bell, Sharon Bell and Pam Dayner, Lynn Nugent, Charles Fox, Kathy Fox, Dan Blake, Thomas Fox, James Fox, David Fox and Claire Fox. Additional great-nephews and nieces, Taylor, Stevie, Aaron, Kathleen, Maria, Sean and Patrick. Littlest ones Amelia and Buck. And a great many friends within the St. Anthony Catholic Church Parish and Friendship Village Community in Columbus. A viewing will be held from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, February 23, 2014 at the SCHOEDINGER NORTH CHAPEL, 5554 Karl Road. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Monday, at St. Anthony's Parish, 1300 Urban Drive with Burial at Resurrection Cemetery on Lewis Center Road. A small lunch will be served at St. Anthony's immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family strongly and sincerely requests any donations be made in her memory to the St. Joseph Home, Inc. in Westerville, Ohio (1226 S. Sunbury Rd., 43081), a tremendous facility and true "home" for multiple women with special needs. Both Mary and her late husband John were very active supporters of this special, loving group home.
