Makris Nicholas Peter Makris, of Worthington Hills, died March 7, 2014 following a lengthy illness. He was 74. He is survived by his sister, Alexandra Makris Simakis of Upper Arlington; and his nieces, Andrea Simakis of Cleveland and Klea Simakis of New York City. He was born October 14, 1939 in Newark, Ohio, son of Peter J. and Cleo Makris. After graduating from The Ohio State University, Nicholas made his home in Columbus, holding several managerial positions and retiring from Union Tools. His family and friends will remember this gentleman and scholar for his passion for life and for his Greek heritage, his love of dancing, and the way he lit up a room. Nicholas' family will receive friends on Thursday, March 13, from 6-8 p.m. at the O.R. WOODYARD CO. Northwest Chapel, 2990 Bethel Rd., Columbus, with the Trisagion at 7:30 p.m. Funeral will take place on Friday, March 14, at 10 a.m. at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 555 N. High St., Columbus. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, 275 N. Cedar St., Newark. Memorials may be made to the Greek Orthodox Church.
