Davis-Patrick Ruby (Thomas) Davis-Patrick, 60, of Columbus, passed peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on March 14, 2014 in Columbus, Ohio. She is survived by her husband, Jerome Patrick; her children, James Bruce Davis, II, and Jarrett Blake Davis; her siblings, Robert C. (Shirley) Thomas, Jr., Thelma Thomas (Lou) Price, and Barbara Thomas; and her grandchildren, Jamia Davis and Justice Davis; four nieces and three nephews, along with many others who called her mom. Ruby was born January 2, 1954 to Robert C. Thomas, Sr., and Elsie (Trimble) Thomas in Monroe, Louisiana. She was the fourth of five children. She was preceded in death by her older brother Nathan R. Thomas and her older half-sister Shirley Ann Thomas and her parents. She was a 25 year member of Shiloh Baptist Church, pastored by Dr. C. Dexter Wise, III, and later by Rev. Dr. Otha Gilyard. She was the parent volunteer for the children's choir and participated in many other ministries at Shiloh. Later she headed the Tutoring Ministry where she tutored students in math, reading and other subjects. She was an active part of the Shiloh Baptist Church Book Club for several years, and later became Book Club leader. She has been an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. for over 40 years, serving on the Education Committee and Saturday Morning Read-ins. She was a graduate of Grambling State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education (1975) and she continued with graduate studies at Grambling and then to The University of Texas, Odessa/Midland, The Ohio State University and The University of Phoenix. She was employed by the Gahanna, Whitehall, Groveport, and Grove City Public Schools in her career. Ruby has left a great legacy for all to follow, one that incorporates a giving spirit, a loving heart and the willingness to support and encourage her sons and all those she encountered. A public viewing will be held on Friday, March 21, 2014 from 1-5 p.m. at DIEHL-WHITTAKER FUNERAL SERVICE, 720 E. Long Street. The Funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Shiloh Baptist Church, 720 Mt. Vernon Avenue, where the family will receive friends from 12Noon until time of service.
