Mae Lucile (Purdy) Hursey Obituary
Hursey Mae Lucile (Purdy) Hursey, R.N., 100, of Westerville went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 19, 2014. She was born at home in Gambier, OH on March 22, 1913, to the late Grover C. and Nellie E. (Wolfe) Purdy. She graduated from Grant Hospital School of Nursing on December 1, 1934, and was employed by Grant Hospital as a registered nurse; later worked as a public health nurse and an industrial nurse. After retiring from Doctors Hospital North, she filled her days with family, reading, bird watching, and cared for many who needed medical assistance. She was very proud of her nursing profession. She formerly was active in the Harlem Church of Christ in Christian Union. She is survived by her children, Walter Hursey of the home, Howard (Suzy) Hursey, Jr., of Southport, NC; Lois Hursey-Ramey of Columbus, Marilyn Hahn Cook of Alexandria; daughters-in-law, Mary Lou Hahn and Cora Hursey; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren; sister, Martha (Purdy) Weaver of Floyds Knobs, IN; niece, Sara (Weaver) Kenney; nephew, James (Janice) Weaver; great-nieces, great-nephew, great great-nieces; friends, Randy Stemen of the home, and others. She was a devoted and loving mother and will be greatly missed for her wisdom, guidance, and prayers. She was preceded in death by her husband Howard Nelson Hursey, Sr., sons Charles H. Hahn and Edward R. "Bud" Hursey, daughter Garnet (Hursey) Bailey, son-in-law Vern Bailey and grandchildren Bonnie Sue Hursey and Dale Bailey and brother-in-law Robert E. Weaver. Bishop Sherman Watkins, PhD, will officiate at the interment on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at 12 noon at the Maple Grove-Fancher Cemetery on Fancher Rd., Westerville.
