Finneran Russell D. Finneran, age 83, lifetime, third-generation resident of Columbus, Ohio, died at home, Monday, April 7, 2014, fortified by the Sacraments and surrounded by family. Attended Holy Rosary Grade School, St. Joseph Cathedral School, and St. Charles Preparatory School, receiving a combined B.A. and J.D from Ohio State University in 1954, having served four years of ROTC and swum varsity under Mike Peppe. Served 1954-1956 in the Air Force as 1st Lt Assistant to the Judge Advocate General at Bryan Air Force Base, Bryan, TX. Practiced law 33 years in Columbus with his father and brother at Finneran, Finneran, & Finneran. A former member of the Columbus, Ohio, and Federal Bar Associations, and the Franklin County Trial Lawyers Association. An avid OSU football fan since 1944 and season ticket holder since 1960, he sat through the entire 1950 OSU-Michigan Snow Bowl, and was The World's Loudest Buckeye Fan, known for his lengthy "O-hi-oooooo" yell. A proud Irish tenor, he sang for years in piano bars around Columbus; an aficionado of handball and racquetball, he played for decades at the Bath Club of Columbus and the Central YMCA; and, a lifetime advocate of the law to protect the underdog, he instilled in his family a love of song, sport, study, and justice. A member of the OSU Alumni Association, Ancient Order of Hibernians, The Shamrock Club of Columbus, Four S Club of Columbus, AmVets, and Sharon Heights Community Association. He is preceded in death by infant sister, Rosalie F. Finneran, and brother, Thomas J. Finneran. Survived by beloved wife of 53 years, Alicia Dee (Cleary) Finneran; son, Sean P. (Bonnie) Finneran (Columbus); daughters, Ketti Irene Finneran (Richard Brown) of University Hts, OH, and Erin Marie Finneran (Alejandro Bernal-Navarro) of St. Louis, MO; and grandchildren, Riley Irene Finneran, Brendan Shea Finneran, Fiona Mor Finneran, Gabriel Sidney Brown, Madison Cleary Brown, and Alicia Isabel Bernal. The family will receive friends at EGAN-RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 430 E. Broad St., 43215, Friday, April 11, 5-8 p.m. A graveside Rite of Committal with Final Commendation and Military Honors, Saturday 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Cemetery, 6440 South High Street, Lockbourne, OH 43137.
