Charles Andrew Hakes Obituary
Hakes Charles Andrew Hakes, age 95, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2014. He was born in Sedalia, Ohio on February 6, 1919 to the late George E. and Viola E. Hakes. Charles was a veteran of the United States Army serving in WWII and retired from Standard Oil after many years of dedicated service. He attended Glenwood United Methodist Church for many years and later attended Columbia Heights United Methodist Church. He was a longtime member of Moose Lodge 11 on Demorest Road and the Teamsters. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wives Florence Hakes and Betty Carpenter Hakes and several siblings. Charles will be dearly missed by his daughter, Janice Newberry; grandson, Jeremy (Sukruti Patel) Newberry; sister, Pleasant Cooper; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Funeral service will be held on Friday, April 11, 2014 at 1 p.m. with visitation one hour prior at the SCHOEDINGER HILLTOP CHAPEL, 3030 W. Broad St., Columbus, Ohio. Celebrant Mark Dettmer officiating. Committal service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 5600 E. Broad St., Columbus, Ohio.
