Shelby E. Janet "Jan" Shelby Obituary
Shelby E. Janet "Jan" Shelby, age 77, a longtime resident of Upper Arlington, died Monday, April 21, 2014 at Westminster-Thurber Community. She was born January 6, 1937 in Crooksville, Ohio. She was a Registered Nurse with The Ohio State School for the Blind retiring as a nurse supervisor following 16 years. Jan is survived by her husband of 52 years, David W. Shelby; daughters and sons-in-law, Lynne and Richard Martini, Susan and Thomas Pabst and Kristin Robbins; grandchildren, Erin and Emily Martini, Will and David Robbins and Clark Pabst; sister, Connie (Mel) Nowotny; sister-in-law, Lynda Mahaffey; niece, Gerri and Lee Spitzer and great niece, Heather Spitzer and many friends. She was preceded in death by her father William Clark and mother and stepfather, Thelma and Joe Hendershot. She was a graduate of Bethesda School of Nursing, Zanesville, Ohio. Jan was a longtime member of First Community Church, where she was active in Guild X and Couples Circle 32. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Westminster-Thurber Community Rehabilitation staff for the loving care shown to Jan and her family during her time there. Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Thursday at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road. A Memorial Service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, April 25, 2014 at First Community Church, 1320 Cambridge Blvd., with Rev. James M. Long officiating. There will be a reception immediately following the service in Brownlee Hall. Private interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Columbus Charity Newsies, 4300 Indianola Avenue, Columbus, OH 43214, in Jan's memory.
