Eloise Mae (Bain) DeLong Obituary
DeLong Eloise Mae (Bain) DeLong, age 90, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2014 at Westminster Thurber. She was born March 6, 1924 in Columbus, Ohio to the late William and Gladys (VanGorden) Bain and was a 1941 graduate of Jackson Twp. High School. Eloise married Clyde, her childhood sweetheart, in June of 1945 upon his return from World War II. She worked at The Godman Shoe Company before devoting full time to raising a family. She was a member of the Grove City Chapter of the O.E.S. and a longtime member of New Horizons United Methodist Church, where she had been active in United Methodist Women and the "True Blue" class. She was one of the original founders of the Chicken Noodle Dinner at the church. Eloise enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, gardening, cheering on the Cincinnati Reds, and spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Clyde E. DeLong, daughter Linda Hoffman, brother Edward Bain and sisters Mary "Molly" DeLong and Carol Johnson. Survived by children, Sharon McManis, Carol Berry and Brenda Chapman; sister, Shirley (Will) Mills; 10 grandchildren; numerous great and great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Mae Corvin, Marilyn Bain and Ann Blackmore. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Senior Independence Hospice and the caring staff of Westminster Thurber. Family will welcome friends Tuesday, May 20, 2014 from 5-8 p.m. (7:30 p.m. O.E.S. Service) at SCHOEDINGER GROVE CITY CHAPEL, 3920 Broadway, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday; interment to follow at Sunset Cemetery; Andrew Hoover, Celebrant.
