Craig Russell Campbell Obituary
Campbell Craig Russell Campbell, beloved son, brother, uncle, partner and friend died unexpectedly at the age of 53 on May 24, 2014 at his home in Miami, Florida, where he had recently relocated. Born in Minneapolis, MN on March 27, 1961, Craig spent his formative years in Hudson, OH and most of his adulthood in Columbus, OH. He was a gentle soul, lifelong learner and someone who's calling was to help those struggling in life, as he had himself. A 1979 graduate of Western Reserve Academy in Hudson, Craig would have celebrated his 35th reunion there in June. Craig earned a BA in English, as well as his Master's of Social Work, from The Ohio State University. He went on to develop a practice at Affirmations: A Center for Psychotherapy and Growth and later launched his own, private counseling and coaching office, which thrived for many years. Through this work, he combined his professional roles as coach, psychotherapist, hypnotherapist, NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) practitioner, gestalt therapist, seminar leader and teacher, to empower people to actualize their personal and professional potentials. Actively involved with the Ohio Splash Swim Team for many years, as well as wrestling, Craig participated in the Chicago Gay Games in 2004. A lover of the arts, music and dancing, he was a voracious concert and theatre-goer, especially anything related to David Bowie or Elton John. He will be remembered for his contagious sense of humor. His father, Duncan Hill Campbell, who passed away in 2009, preceded Craig in death. He is survived by his long-time partner, Brad Trees; along with mother Jane Campbell; siblings, Christopher Campbell (Kathy) and Jennifer Peterson (Chris); as well as nieces and nephews, Duncan and Mackenzie Campbell, and Isabelle, Amelia and Harrison Peterson. A "Celebration of Life" service will be held at the SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road, on Sunday, June 8 at 3 p.m, Andrew Hoover, Celebrant. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for contributions to be made to The Netcare Foundation, 199 South Central Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43223 or to the Capital Area Humane Society, 3015 Scioto-Darby Executive Court, Hilliard, OH 43026. Condolences to the family can be sent to www.schoedinger.com.
