Nellie J. Stocklin Obituary
Stocklin Nellie J. Stocklin, age 101, passed away Saturday, June 21, 2014. Nellie was born January 19, 1913 to the late Thomas Clayton and Eunice (Cozart) Williams, the fourth children out of 5 who all preceded her in death. Nellie was born in Jackson Co., West Virginia along the Ohio River. She was raised in West Virginia until she graduated from Williamstown High School in 1932. She moved to Columbus after her oldest sister who lived in Groveport at the time told her about job opportunities. Nellie was married to her husband Mathias E. Stocklin September 2, 1939 in St. John's Church. Mathias preceded her in death on November 28, 1985 after 46 years of marriage. She worked at Central Ohio Paper Company and Columbus Public Schools as a cafeteria employee at Clinton Junior High and Whetstone High School where she retired after 20 years of service. Nellie enjoyed ceramics, gardening, cooking, and traveling including trips to California and Hawaii. She even enjoyed a hot air balloon ride on one of her trips. She is survived by her only son, Rodney Stocklin, close friend, Laura Rothfuss); goddaughter, Sandy Meurer and her daughter, Cassie; ten nieces and nephews and their families. Funeral Service 1 p.m. Thursday, June 26, 2014 at the SCHOEDINGER MIDTOWN CHAPEL, 229 E State St., where friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Rev. Virginia L. Bauman officiating. A private burial will be held later. She had wonderful care at Kobacher House the last 4 days of her life. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. John United Church of Christ, 59 E. Mound St., Columbus, OH 43215 or Kobacher House, 800 McConnell Dr., Columbus, OH 43214.
