Holden (Killilea) Joan Killilea Holden, age 84, passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. Born on November 14, 1929 in Columbus. Daughter of the late James and Margaret Schmelzer Killilea. Preceded in death by her beloved husband for over 40 years, Walter. Survived by her children, Michael (Laurie) Holden, Lynn (Mike) Winters, Molly (Chris) Santho and Peggy (Brian) Hogan; grandchildren, Cassandra, Matthew and Andrew Winters, Rebecca (Stephen) Marks, Kyle, Allison Santho, Pauline, Caroline Holden, Brendan, Connor and Lauren Hogan; brother, William (Geri) Killilea; numerous other relatives and friends. Joan graduated from St. Joseph Academy and St. Mary of the Springs College with a B.S. in Home Economics. She worked as a Betty Newton for the Ohio Gas Company. She was a founding member of St. Timothy Parish where she served as Altar Care Coordinator for over 40 years. She sang in the funeral choir, volunteered at parish festivals, worked in the cafeteria, taught religious education. Joan was a member of the women's club, the Vintage Club, Killilea Card Club, Christ Child Society, St. Mary of the Spring Alumni Association, Msgr. Leonard J. Fick Literary Club, St. Joseph Academy Guild and IFCA. Joan cheered on the Bishop Hartley Hawks as an assistant girls tennis coach. Friends may call between 4-7 p.m. on Friday, July 11, Vigil Service 6:45 p.m., at the EGAN-RYAN NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 4661 Kenny Rd. Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Church, 414 E. North Broadway. Fr. Timothy Hayes and Deacon Chris Campbell will be celebrating the Mass. Burial St. Joseph Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff at Westminster Thurber Community for their love and compassionate care.
