Stephanie L. (Gulker) Appelhans Obituary
(Gulker) Appelhans Stephanie L. (Gulker) Appelhans, age 24, of Hilliard, passed away July 7, 2014 after a two and a half year battle with cancer. She was born December 29, 1989 in Columbus and was a 2008 graduate of Hilliard Davidson H.S. where she was a member of the National Honor Society. She graduated Cum Laude from OSU with a B.A. in Criminology. Stephanie was personally presented her diploma by President Gordon Gee in his office. During college, she was employed at OSU Student Safety and Bob Evans at Tuttle Crossing. In 2012, Stephanie moved to Sierra Vista, AZ with her love, Jonathon where she participated in clinical research for cancer. Jonathon was devoted to Stephanie and showed his true love and tremendous support. They were united in marriage July 1, 2014. Known as "Little" for her petite stature, Stephanie was passionate about life, extremely determined, and exhibited remarkable bravery and courage. She had a spirited personality and was an exceptionally inspirational person. She was creative in showcasing her talents, and encouraged others to live by her motto: "You don't know how strong you are until being strong is your only choice." Stephanie was a blessing to have in our lives and will be dearly missed by her husband, Jonathon Appelhans; father, Chuck Gulker; mother, Peg Gulker; sister, Brittany Gulker; brother, Thomas Gulker; grandmother, Janice Gulker; step-grandmother, Alice Gulker; father and mother-in-law, Joel and Susan Appelhans; brothers-in-law, Andrew and Gregory Appelhans; sister-in-law, Carolyn Appelhans; aunts, uncles, and cousins who loved her dearly; close friends, and her cats, Luna and Malachi. Stephanie's family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. David Cohn for his admirable level of care and compassion, and to the dedicated doctors, nurses and clergy at the James and Zusman Hospice. The family will receive visitors from 2-4 p.m. at which time the funeral service will begin at 4 p.m. on Friday, July 11, 2014 at the SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd., Columbus, OH. Private family burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Stephanie's memory to the Capital Area Humane Society, 3015 Scioto Darby Executive Ct., Hilliard, OH 43026.
