Arndt Thomas Eldon Arndt, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 16, 2014, two weeks before his 70th birthday surrounded by his loving family at the Kobacker House after a brief stay. Tom was a lifelong resident of Powell, Ohio in Delaware County. He attended the neighborhood schools and graduated from Olentangy High School in 1962. In 1968, he married the love of his life, Sharon Brown, of Centerburg, Ohio. Together they raised two sons and lived on the same farmland that Tom's great-grandfather bought in 1917. Tom spent thirty years Powell's rural mail carrier and retired in 2003. When Tom started working at the post office he was the only mail carrier for all of the Powell Territory. Tom was honored by the post office with the prestigious One Million Mile Award for driving a million miles with no accidents. After retiring, Tom worked at the YMCA right up the road from his house. Tom served in the National Guard he coached baseball for his sons, and was a Boy Scout Leader. A member of the Elks, Tom and Sharon enjoyed the many activities and made many friends. He had a zest for life and sense of humor, never knew a stranger and enjoyed every minute of life with his family and friends. Tom is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sharon; his sons, Jon (Leslie) and Jeff (Betsy); his mother, Ethel Arndt; his sister, Sally (Dwight Zemp); grandchildren, Sam, Tristan and Emma Grace; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Tom is preceded in death by his father John Eldon Arndt and his brother-in-law Rob Norris and Tom Brown. Family will receive friends on Monday, July 21, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. at the RUTHERFORD FUNERAL HOME AT POWELL, 450 W. Olentangy Street Powell, Ohio 43065. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Larry Brown officiating. Memorial contributions may be made the Kobacker House.
