Smith John H. Smith, Jr., age 86, of Groveport, died Thursday, July 31, 2014 at Grant Medical Center. Born January 18, 1928 in Ashland, KY to the late J. Howard & Mayme (Williams) Smith, he was a graduate of South Point High School and Miami University. He served in the U.S. Navy as a hospital corpsman, where he was stationed in San Diego and Oakland. He was retired from ODOT with 26 years of service, where he was Deputy Director of Finance. John was an avid golfer and amateur geologist. He was preceded in death by his sister Betty McCabe. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Lou; daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry and Bill Neeper, and Jonda and Jamie Sims, all of Pickerington; brother and sister-in-law, the Rev. Richard G. and Louise Smith, of Minnesota; and precious Louisiana family, Oakley, Sue, Greg, and Diane Clay. John also leaves his treasured cat, Truman. Friends may visit 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday at the DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME, 650 W. Waterloo St., Canal Winchester, where funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. The Rev.
