Hardy Phyllis Hardy, age 83, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2014 with her family at her side. She is survived by her daughter, Elaine (Dennis) Howard; son, Michael (Vicki Gordon) Rubin of New York; sisters, Sharon (Marvin) Paine and Barbara Levin; brother, Barry Schecter of Wilmington, North Carolina; grandchildren, Max, Rachel, Isabelle, Olivia and Matt; numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her loving husband Robert "Doc" Hardy and parents Meyer and Sarah Schecter. Phyllis was known for her sharp wit, her impeccable style, and her sense of adventure. She enjoyed a good game of cards, a nice meal out with her many friends, and most of all spending time with her family. Shouldered with great responsibility at an early age, Phyllis was a true matriarch. Caring for four generations at once, she imparted strong values and a commitment to family, faith and community. She passed her strength, vision and sense of purpose to her siblings, children and grandchildren. Phyllis was a member of B'nai Brith Women, Hadassah and Congregation Tifereth Israel. She will be missed immensely and will be forever in our hearts. We love her more, more, more! Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 13th at EPSTEIN MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 3232 E. Main St. with Rabbi Harold Berman officiating. Burial will follow at New Tifereth Israel Cemetery. Shiva will be observed at the Howard residence on Wednesday and Thursday evening from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday evening from 5-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to The James Cancer Hospital in her memory.
