Robert John "Bob" Wientjes Obituary
Wientjes Robert "Bob" John Wientjes, age 89, passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, Ohio. Born May 17, 1925 in Cleveland, Ohio, Bob was the second youngest of nine children to John and Theresa Baker Wientjes. A veteran of the United States Military (Navy), he served from 1944 to 1946 in the Pacific sparking his life-long love of travel. He married Ruth A. Brooks on June 25, 1950 and they had one son, Brent R. Wientjes. One of the first members of his family to get his Master's degree, Bob always encouraged his son and grandchildren to make the most of their educations. His education included: Bachelor in Education at Wilmington College and his Master in Education from Xavier University. Bob spent his career in education, serving as a school teacher, school principal, college recruiter and state of Ohio education administrator. He was an active member of the State of Ohio Retired Education Board. Bob was known for his love of travel. He visited all 50 states, Canada, Europe and Australia. He loved his family dearly, and frequently said "I might be prejudiced, but you are the best." Bob was preceded in death by his loving wife Ruth, who passed away in 2001, and his siblings. Bob is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Brent Wientjes and Suzanne (Grace) Wientjes; his grandchildren, Greg Wientjes and Michelle (Wientjes) Boyapati, her husband, Sarath Boyapati, and his great-grandchildren, Kayla Boyapati, Asha Boyapati and Ethan Boyapati. His family will hold a private graveside ceremony at Patterson Twp. Cemetery, Patterson, Ohio at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2014 with a gathering following service at Der Dutchman, Plain City, Ohio.
