Mayes Oveda Little Mayes, age 78, answered the call of God and this chapter of her life came to a close at National Church Residences on Monday, August 25, 2014. Mother Mayes a faithful member of New Horizon Christian Fellowship where she was on the Mothers' Board and an active Prayer Warrior Team Member. Preceded in death by her parents Annie Smith Bivins and John Bivins, brothers Benjamin Bivins, O.C. Mark, Johnnie F. Bivins and sisters Emma Mae Burgess, Hattie Pridgett, Elnora Owens, and Edwina B. Huewitt (Mom's twin). She leaves to cherish her memory, loving daughter, Peggy (John) Johnson; two sisters, Rosie Smart and Rosetta Bivins; one brother, Thomas Gaston Bivins, all of Quitman, Georgia; special nieces, Dorothy Burgess, Elouise Moore, Henrietta Mayo, Sandra Seay; special nephew, Gadson Burgess; grand god-daughter, Courtney L. Coman; special grandson, Edward H. Green; sisters-in-law, J. Ruth Brooks, Rosa M. Bivins, and Sherrie (Paul) Mayes; special daughters, Joyce, Marionette, Valencia, and MaryEllen; special friends, Dorothy Weekly, Mother M. Jewell Meredith, Mariam Weissman; Mothers of New Horizon; Pray Warriors; a "host" of special nieces, special nephews, relatives, and friends. Homegoing Celebration Service 1 p.m., Saturday, August 30, 2014, New Horizon Christian Fellowship, 2080 Fairwood Avenue, where the family will receive friends from 12Noon until time of service. Elder Phillip Green, officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in memory of Oveda Mayes to the Church (New Horizon Christian Fellowship) or to National Church Residences, 167 N.
