Adrienne Gavula Obituary
Adrienne Gavula, 35, died unexpectedly on Saturday, September 2, 2017 in Columbus, Ohio. Adrienne graduated with a Bachelor's degree from Ohio University and a Master's of Social Work degree from The Ohio State University. She was a social worker and the Development Director for the ACLU of Ohio, and previously worked at Columbus AIDS Task Force and the National Association of Social Workers Ohio Chapter. In addition to volunteering, she has also served on the Women Have Options and Freedom of Choice Ohio Coalition boards. Adrienne was passionate about travel, social justice issues and the Pittsburgh Steelers. She was thoughtful, generous and inspired those around her to be their best selves. Adrienne was a fierce advocate of the First Amendment, the rights of underprivileged populations and pushing systems towards equality and justice. She spent every day making the world a more kind, fair place. Adrienne is survived by her mother, Sheila McConnell; stepfather, Denny McConnell; father, Frank Gavula; sister, Jenna Gavula; brother, Kyle (Lori) Gavula; nieces, Loryn and Lindsey Gavula. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Frank and Mary Gavula, and Shelby and Pauline Bair. A Celebration of her Life will be held Friday, September 8 from 6-9 p.m. at The Ohio State University College of Social Work Stillman Hall, 1947 College Rd., Columbus, OH 43210. Dear Gavula Family,
We, the families of The Compassionate Friends, send you our heartfelt condolences. The Compassionate Friends is an international grief support group for parents, grandparents and siblings who have suffered the heartbreaking loss of a child. Our only mission is to provide comfort, hope and support to every family experiencing the death of a son or daughter, brother or sister, or grandchild, and to help others better assist the grieving family. We meet monthly in Columbus from 7-9 PM on the second Tuesday of each month at Ascension Lutheran Church, 1479 Morse Road, Columbus, Ohio 43229. If and when you are ready to do so, please join us. We need Not Walk Along. We are The Compassionate Friends.

Sheila, I am so very sorry to learn of the passing of your beautiful daughter. Reading about her, it is evident how truly special she was, not just as a daughter but to so many other people whose lives she touched as well. May you find some comfort through your deep grief, in the knowledge of this.
You and I worked together at Middletown Hospital for many years...I remember how family was so important to you... my deep sympathy is with you and yours.

I feel so fortunate that I got to know Adrienne. We were fellow social workers and met through a mutual friend. We met for coffee once in Clintonville to discuss our different paths in the social work field, and I loved talking to her when I saw her at parties. She was always kind and helpful and had a great sense of humor. When I think of all she has done to advocate for all people, it makes me so proud to be a social worker. She was out in our world fighting the fight to make the world a better place. My heart goes out to her family and friends. Please know that there are many people who are thinking of you during this difficult time.
