NUGENT Msgr. Michael Andrew "Andy" Nugent, died on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at Mohun Health Care Center. The son of Lawrence and Mary (Slaymon) Nugent, he was born September 23, 1915 in Cambridge, Oh. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Paul, Sister M. Rosamond, OSF, Elizabeth, Winifred, Catherine, Margaret Ellen and Rose, and brothers-in-law Earl Hummer, Michael Flanagan, Timothy O'Connor and Earl Farrell. He is survived by his brother, Rev. James B. Nugent; sister-in-law, Christine Nugent; and many nieces and nephews. Monsignor Nugent attended elementary and high school at St. Benedict School, Cambridge, Oh. He studied Philosophy at St. Charles College Seminary in Columbus, Oh., theology at St. Mary Major Seminary, Norwood, Oh., and was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Columbus on April 17, 1943 by Bishop James Joseph Hartley. He held many assignments in the diocese and his first pastorate was St. Peter, Millersburg and Ss. Peter & Paul, Glenmont. He was also pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes, Ada, founding pastor St. Andrew, Columbus, pastor Holy Rosary, Columbus, pastor St. Christopher, Columbus. He also assisted in ministry at St. Mary Delaware, St. Joseph Cathedral, Columbus, the Chillicothe Correctional Institution with residence St. Mary Chillicothe, St. Mary Magdalene and St. Raphael Home for the Aged. He retired from active ministry in 1985 and continued to be a source of great joy and happiness to all who knew him. His loving nieces and nephews will especially miss his annual St. Patrick Day recitation of "Casey at the Bat". We who loved him will remember him for his strong faith, loving kindness, engaging zest for life, and his pride in his Irish heritage. He will remain in our hearts as brother, uncle, cousin, friend, pastor, confessor, competitor, traveler, reader, golfer, runner, storyteller, and above all, faithful and humble servant of the Lord. Friends may call Sunday, July 5 from 2--5 p.m. at EGAN-RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 403 E. BROAD ST., Columbus. Monsignor's body will be received at St. Andrew Church, 1899 McCoy Rd., Columbus at 9:30 a.m. July 6, where friends may also call until 11 a.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. Bishop Frederick F. Campbell will be the principal celebrant and Father Lawrence Hummer (nephew) will offer the homily. Interment at St. Joseph Cemetery following a luncheon in Nugent Hall at St. Andrew's.
