Obituary Condolences

McILROY Scott Allen McIlroy, MD, age 59, of Upper Arlington, died July 12, 2009. Scott passionately loved life, and with a hug and his big smile he embraced the many, many special people who enriched life for him. He was generous, gracious, and caring in everything he did, which was almost always for the benefit of someone else. His love for others and camaraderie with all led to so many memorable adventures and travels in golf, hunting, fishing, and just being together with family and friends. Above all else, Scott loved his family: his wife of 35 years, Mary McIlroy; and children, David (Anna), Andrew, and Sarah; and grandson, Daniel Scott McIlroy. Scott was born to George and Ellen Mae Bauer McIlroy on January 17, 1950, in Celina, Oh. His parents, brother Monty McIlroy, and sister SueEllen Jones predeceased him. In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by nieces, Jessica Cooper and Hallie Craven; nephews, Chris Jones and Nick Jones; and cousins, Mary Ellen Millar and Joe DeBrower. Scott graduated with many dear friends from Celina Senior High School; DePauw University, where he was a brother of ATO; and the Ohio State University College of Medicine. He loved taking care of the wonderful patients in his ob/gyn practice over the past 30 years he counted them and his staff among his friends. He cherished his time with his golfing friends, from Scioto CC and everywhere else; his pink flamingo tournament; long drive contests; and OSU football. People flocked to Scott to enjoy his company no matter what the activity. He knew no strangers and thrilled in adding new friends. The physicians and staff of the James Cancer Hospital gave selflessly of their talents and energy in supporting Scott and his family as they traveled through this illness and their kindness and expertise has been greatly appreciated. The family requests that individuals wishing to honor Scott's memory may contribute in his name to the James Cancer Hospital fund for Leukemia and Lymphoma Research, P.O. Box 183112, Columbus, Oh. 43218-3112 or to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Central Ohio Chapter, 2225 Citygate Drive, Columbus, Oh. 43219. A Celebration of Scott's life will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, July 18, 2009 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1581 Cambridge Blvd., where family will receive friends beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday and immediately following the service. Rev. Philip Brooks officiating. Arrangements being completed by SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road.
