SANTANGELO (GAZAK) Joan Regan Santangelo, age 72, lost her valiant fight with breast cancer on June 5, 2010 at The Ohio State University Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. Joan graduated from St. Basil Academy and Misericordia Hospital School of Nursing, Philadelphia, PA, Class of 1959. Joan worked at Lincolnview Physicians, along side her devoted husband of 21 years Dr. Vincent J. Santangelo, who preceded her in death in 1981. She retired from Medibill, Inc. in 2005 after 28 years of dedicated service. Joan was a devout Catholic all her life and a long time member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church. She loved spending time with family, reading, doing puzzles, participating in trivia, rooting on The Ohio State Buckeyes, and being at her beloved beach house in Wildwood Crest, NJ. She was a courageous and hard-working mother to her 5 children, and she loved boasting endlessly about her family. Her grandchildren, who called her Nana, were her infinite passion. Joan will be fondly remembered for her articulate conversations, quick wit, humorous sarcasm and the endearing poetry that she wrote to mark the milestones of her family's lives. She is preceded in death by her parents Josef and Gertrude. Joan is survived by her children, Michelle Santangelo (Kathleen), Denise Byrnes (Mark), Lisa Latorre, Paul Santangelo, Steve Santangelo (Catherine); grandchildren, John Vincent, Anthony, Nicholas, Taylor, Ryan, Samuel Vincent, Laura Regan, Varenna, Vince, and Evan; and her brother, Tim Gazak of Colorado Springs, CO. The family would like to express their grateful appreciation to the wonderfully compassionate MICU staff at The OSU Medical Center. Friends may call THURSDAY, June 10, 2010 at the JOHN QUINT TREBONI FUNERAL HOME, 1177 W. 5th Avenue, from 4-8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. on FRIDAY, June 11, 2010 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 434 Norton Road.
