Gerald Skeen Obituary

SKEEN Gerald A. Skeen. A funeral service, celebrating the life of Gerald A. Skeen, 70, of Alexandria, will be held Friday, July 1, 2011 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of The Hoskinson Funeral Home, Kirkersville, with Pastor Larry Brown as celebrant. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Alexandria. Gerald died in Newark, following an extended illness. He was born November 12, 1940 in Columbus, the son of the late Joseph Linton Sr. and Lucille Florence (Kelley) Skeen. He attended Mifflin High School. He was a retired asphalt contractor. He loved the outdoors, and was an avid fishing and hunting enthusiast. He is survived by his loving family, his wife the former Nancy Leasure, whom he married on June 11, 1966; his daughters, Lisa (John) Bandy of Kailua, Hawaii, Lori Szymczak of Newark and Holly Skeen of Alexandria; his granddaughters, Kristina, Kali, Tabitha, and Krista; his brothers and sisters, Barbara Frost, Betty (Robert) Hunt Sr., Nancy Kemp, Donna (Charles) Massara, David (Sue) Skeen, Judy (Tom) Zinser, Bud (Carole) Skeen, Bev (Guy) Nevills, Don (Sandy) Skeen, Linda Skeen; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Jimmy Herbert, Joseph L Skeen Jr., and sisters Shirley A. (Skeen) DiPietro, and Patricia L. (Skeen) Foley. His family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, June 30, 2011, from 5-8 p.m., 285 E Main St. (US RT 40) in Kirkersville, where an on-line guest register and video tribute are available at www.hoskinsonfuneral.com. Memorials may be directed to the "Foundation for Hospice of Central Ohio", PO Box 430, Newark, Ohio 43058-9909. Please make checks payable to "Foundation for Hospice of Central Ohio". A reception following the interment will be held at Jersey Baptist Church, 13260 Morse Rd, Pataskala, Ohio 43062. The family would like to express their thanks to the staff of Hospice of Central Ohio for their kind, compassionate care. Nancy and girls, I just saw this when I was looking online. I am so sorry for your loss. I have so many memories of Gerald from the days of long ago: On Cleveland Ave. I am glad that when I was working at Grant, I got to see Gerald and speak with him. May you take comfort in each other in the days to come and know that he is at rest. God be with you, Denise Clark
