YOUNG Donald G. Young, Sr., age 87, of Columbus passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2011. Don was born on December 22, 1923 in Marietta, Ohio; he was the son of the late Charles E. and Mary C. (Knox) Young. Don was also preceded in death by brother, Charles H. Young. He is survived by his loving family, wife, Virginia O. Young; son, Donald (Julie) Young, Jr. of Dublin, Ohio; daughter, Bobbi (Richard) Edgin of Upper Arlington, Ohio; grandchildren, Jen, Matt and Natalie; and brother, Richard K. Young. Don graduated from Marietta High School in 1941. Don served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII as a Lieutenant in Field Artillery/Engineering Corps. He received his B.S. degree in Agricultural Education in 1950 and his M.S. degree in Agricultural Education in 1965 from The Ohio State University. Don taught Vocational Agriculture in Somerset, Ohio and was an Athens county 4-H Extension Agent in Athens, Ohio. He was the Hocking County Extension Agent in Logan, Ohio for over 15 years. Don served on the Hocking Technical College Board of Trustees, the Logan City School Board, and was a member of the Kiwanis Club. Don was also the Secretary of State for the 4-H Association. He retired after more than 20 years with the OSU's Extension Service. Don and Virginia resided in Fort Lauderdale, Florida for 15 years. Don and Virginia moved to Columbus, Ohio in 2003 to be closer to their families. Don was member of Maple Grove United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the American Legion.
