Yetta Maxine Winton Colston Obituary
COLSTON Yetta Maxine Winton Colston, age 91, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, passed away Tuesday Morning January 1, 2013 in English Garden II at Wesley Ridge Retirement Community in Reynoldsburg, Ohio with her son John nearby. Maxine was born on November 1, 1921 in Huntington, West Virginia, daughter of the late Dr. John L. Winton, and the late Yetta Saltzman Winton. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Edwin Colston, and her father-in-law Rev. Jessie F. Colston, Sr., mother-in-law Marian Watson Colston. Others preceding her included her sister Della Ohnalene Cole, and brother-in-law Ernest W. Cole, as well as her brother-in-law Jessie F. Colston Jr., sister-in-law Lida Colston, brother-in-law Fred L. Colston, and sister-in-law Margaret Hester. She is survived by her husband's only remaining sibling brother-in-law Rev. Otis Colston and sister-in-law, Deloris Colston. Maxine leaves behind a loving family including son, John T. Colston, daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Ann Colston, granddaughter, Diane E. Taylor, grandsons, Brian T. Colston and John A. Colston, and granddaughter-in-law, Audri Colston. In addition she leaves behind eight great-grandchildren and a special niece Ruth Cole Oulette. Maxine was a 1943 graduate of Marshall University with a degree in education and taught High School Physics and Chemistry for over 35 years in West Virginia, Indiana, and Ohio. Her last 25 years of teaching was at Brookville High School in Brookville, Ohio where she was the head of the science department. She was very influential in the lives of numerous young people while teaching at Brookville and was awarded several honors during her tenure there. Maxine was a very dedicated Christian who "loved Jesus" and was an active member of Christ Baptist Church while she resided in Brookville. She taught bible classes to all ages while serving her Lord at Christ Baptist. Upon retirement in 1983 she and her husband Tom moved to Reynoldsburg, Ohio to be closer to their son and his family and continued her Christian walk with Jesus by becoming a very active member of the Reynoldsburg Baptist Church. She taught the Ladies Sunday School Class there for over 20 years and served on numerous committees. Maxine was a very giving person always looking out for others and caring more for others needs than her own. She spent the last two years of her life at the Wesley Ridge Retirement Community where she was loved by nurses, care-givers and other residents. She was most grateful for the care she received while living at Wesley Ridge. Calling hours are 2-4 p.m. Saturday, January 5, 2013 at the SCHOEDINGER EAST CHAPEL located at 5360 East Livingston Avenue, Columbus, Ohio. Additional visiting hours will be offered on Sunday, January 6, 2013 at The Reynoldsburg Baptist Church from 2-2:45 p.m. preceding the funeral service which will commence at 3 p.m. at the church located at 887 Rosehill Road, Reynoldsburg, Ohio. Maxine will be buried at the Woodmere Memorial Park in Huntington, W. Va. on Monday, January 7, 2013 following a short memorial service at the Woodmere Mausoleum scheduled for Noon.
