TURLEY William Edgar Turley, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, died Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at Clark Retirement Community, of Alzheimers disease. Born in Pataskala, Ohio, Mr. Turley graduated from Mt. Vernon (Ohio), High School in 1951. He attended Ohio Wesleyan University on a basketball scholarship. He left Ohio Wesleyan after two years and joined the Air Force, serving as a first-lieutenant during the Korean and Cold Wars. He was a combat-crew navigator in an in-flight refueling squadron, part of the Strategic Air Command. After completing five years of duty, Mr. Turley entered Ohio State University, graduating in 1959 with a B.S. in Business Administration. Before his retirement in 1997, Mr. Turley was employed in the sales and marketing divisions of LTV Steel Company and its predecessor, Republic Steel Company of Cleveland, Ohio. He joined Republic in 1959 and worked in the steel industry for 38 years, serving as salesman in Mansfield, Ohio; Assistant Manager, Sheet and Strip Division, in Cleveland; Assistant Manager and Manager in Detroit District Sales; and Regional Sales and Marketing Manager in Cincinnati. A long-time golfer, he was a member of Westbrook Country Club (Mansfield, Ohio), Birmingham Country Club and Orchard Lake Country Club (Detroit), Canterbury Golf Club and Chagrin Valley Racquet Club (Cleveland), and Kenwood Country Club (Cincinnati). He was also a member of the Sycamore Presbyterian Church (Cincinnati), Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, and the Sons of the American Revolution. Survivors include Kathleen Vernon Turley, his wife of 52 years; two children, Karen K. Turley (David M. Laurila) of Cambridge, Mass., and Christopher W. Turley (Shelly) of Grand Rapids, Mich.; grandchildren, Katie Laurila and Kendra, Steven and Ryan Turley; sister Linda Pile (Larry) of Albany, Oh.; sister-in-law, Barbara Vernon Southard (Tom) of Monroeville, Pa.; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents William C. Turley (Gwen) of Norwalk, Conn. and Martha G. Cochran (Gene) of Nachitoches, La. and brother Robert J. Turley (Barbara) of Jacksonville, Fla. Friends may call on Saturday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the FLOWERS-SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 619 East High St., Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050, where a service will follow beginning at 1 p.m. with Rev. Jerry Bell officiating. Interment with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veteran's Council, will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery in Gambier, Ohio.
