Luther Henry Meuser Obituary
Meuser Luther Henry Meuser, age 92, of Gahanna, Ohio, passed away on February 4, 2013. Lou was born January 30, 1921 in Payne, Ohio to the late Alvina (Bouyack) and Henry Meuser and grew up in Pigeon, Michigan. He was a veteran of WWII, having served as an Army cryptographer in the European theater, and spent more than a year in hospitals recovering from war injuries. Lou was a graduate of Capital University and did graduate study at The Ohio State University and the University of Arizona. He spent most of his career as a physicist in the Avionics Lab at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. He pioneered the development of infrared technology, served as Air Force member of NATO and SEATO, authored numerous publications, and belonged to many scientific and professional organizations. Later in his career, he studied astronomy and optical fabrication, and served as chief scientist at the Air Force Observatory in Cloudcroft, New Mexico. After retirement, he settled in Tucson, Arizona for many years. He traveled throughout the world for business, and continued his travels in retirement, with special interest in observing solar eclipses and exploring the U.S. Southwest. He was an avid photographer and enjoyed a wide range of hobbies, including skiing, golfing, and attending Indy 500 races. He was an active member at several churches throughout his life, including Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Dayton, Ohio and St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Tucson. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty (Hayes) Meuser, and is survived by his children, Mark (Susan) Meuser, Linda (Alan) Mittermaier, Kathy (Joe) Mailander, and John (Susan) Meuser; grandchildren, Emily (Matt) Hoffman, Olivia Mailander, Peter Mailander, Rachel (Justin) Monica, Laura Mittermaier, and Anne Meuser; great-grandchildren, Matthiew Austin and Maxeene Monica; siblings Frieda Chappelle, Fred (Jeanne) Meuser, Martin (Betty) Meuser, Ann Books, Lorena Fackler, Alice Disbro, and Paul (Vivian) Meuser; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation was held Wednesday, February 6 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the SCHOEDINGER EAST CHAPEL, 5360 E. Livingston Avenue. Funeral service was at Central College Presbyterian Church, 975 S. Sunbury Road, Westerville, Thursday, February 7, 2013 at 11 a.m. Pastor Malcolm Davis officiated. Interment with military honors at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Edgewood Memorial Park, North Little Rock, Arkansas. Memorial contributions may be made to the Luther H. and Betty J.
