Ruth Sieker Gardner Obituary
Gardner Ruth Sieker Gardner, 82, of Columbus, OH, passed away March 23, 2013. Ruth was born in Custer, South Dakota on March 11, 1931. She was the daughter of the late Maxine and John Henry Sieker and was raised by her grandmother after her mother's death. Ruth graduated from Washington-Lee High School, Arlington, VA and went on to receive her Bachelor's Degree at Ohio Wesleyan University in 1952 where she was active in Kappa Kappa Gamma and president of the chapter her senior year. While at Ohio Wesleyan she met Bob Gardner whom she married in 1952. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Ruth is survived by her love, Bob Gardner; children, Leslie Paula Gardner (Richard C. Gustafson), Robert M., Jr. (Sherry) Gardner, Stephen John (Elizabeth) Gardner and Lorianne (David) Gardner Loveless; seven grandchildren, Bob Gardner, III, Diana Elise Gustafson, John Sieker Gardner, Kelly Elizabeth Gardner, Ann Christine Gardner, Caroline Elizabeth Gardner, Daniel Nicodemus Gardner; nephews, nieces, cousins, and many treasured friends. She was active in Young Associates, Parents League, First Community Church, The Columbus State Hospital, and she was a docent at the Columbus Museum of Art before she received her Masters Degree in Social Work from Ohio State University in 1976. Following that she was employed by Children's Mental Health branch in Worthington. She then went into private practice working with adults and families. When she retired, she was very involved with "Program 60" at Ohio State University. She volunteered at the James Cancer Hospital in outpatient chemotherapy as well as the James Hospice program. When that disbanded, she volunteered at Kobacker House and Home Reach Hospice. She was a long time member of First Community Church where she also volunteered. Being an only child, with both parents missing, her constant joys were her children, grandchildren and her husband's loving family in which he grew up. Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 1 p.m. at First Community Church, 1320 Cambridge Blvd., Columbus, OH 43212. Reverend James Long officiating. The family will receive guests following the service in Brownlee Hall. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Ohio Wesleyan University, 61 S.
