Bast John Richard Bast, 89, went to be with the Lord on July 11, 2013. He was born in Columbus to John G. and Ethel (Zeller) Bast. John gave his family a secure home where Christ is the Head. He was devoted to his family showing love, tender patience, guidance and courage. He brought joy through laughter and fun. John is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, June; children, Gary (Melanie), Karen, Lisa (Jeff) Snyder; grandchildren, Nicole, Michelle, Christian, Katie Snyder; sisters, Marjorie Pfeifer, Janet Koch; nieces and nephews. John received his B.S. and M.A. degrees from The Ohio State University. He immensely enjoyed his career as teacher at Dana Elementary School and principal at Alton Hall Elementary School. He also enjoyed meeting people, traveling and gardening. He was a longtime member and an elder of Hoge Memorial Presbyterian Church. The family greatly appreciates the wonderful aides who provided exceptional care through his later years with dementia and the tremendous support of the Nightingale Homecare staff.
