I took her Abnormal Psychology class several years ago. I went to college simply because I had nothing else to do with my time and had plans of dropping out after only two quarters. It was in her class that I found my passion and decided to pursue Psychology. She told me that once I got to graduate school, she would be happy to write a reccomendation letter for me. I sent her an email today that came back undeliverable. I started researching CSCC to find out if she still worked there and came across this article. I am so sorry to hear that she has passed. She was so kind, and funny. She made class fun, and I actually retained the information I learned from her. Again, I am so sorry for your loss and hope you know just how great of impact she had on others. I will never forget that it was her that helped me find my calling. My prayers go out to you (her family).

Carolyn, it's been almost 7 months. Something made me Google you tonight, and that brought me back to this page. Most of the entries I've read, but there are a few new ones.
I just wanted to tell you how much I love you and miss you SO MUCH! I still can't believe you're dead. I know you wouldn't believe it either. I think about you every day. About a month ago, I walked Sharon Woods Metro Park on my own, for the first time! I talked to you (which I don't normally do, b/c it doesn't really "do" anything for me). I had a thought that I am getting through this pretty well, all things considered. I think all I learned from you is helping me cope with the fact you're gone. If I hadn't met you--if you weren't my best friend--I wouldn't be able to deal with this so well. (Then again, if you weren't my best friend, I wouldn't be so sad.)
Anyway. It will never make sense to me why you died, since you helped SO MANY people. It is amazing how good and helpful and friendly you were to everyone ever. You would've just kept on improving the world. So I don't understand why you're gone. But I know in your short life you did the most good for the most people. I mean, you may have achieved sainthood.
I hate that you're gone, and I hate missing you, and I hate being sad that you're gone and that I miss you. But, 'tis better to have loved Carolyn and lost Carolyn, than never to have loved Carolyn at all.
You are the best ever, and my only wish is to see you again someday.

She was a wonderful professor to my son Matt, in fact, the only teacher he connected with at Columbus State. Her passion for teaching will be greatly missed, teachers change the world, one student at a time; I wish I had told her how her positive emails to my son made a difference! May peace be with her family at this difficult time.

Life is so fragile and fleeting. Having my teacher pass has had a real effect on me; I miss her, and I barely knew her. Having known such a vibrant woman, who taught in such a manner that brought the material to life, was inspirational. Dr. Carolyn Kaufman was an inspiration - not just for her being a phenomenal teacher, but for being a beautiful human being. And her smile and laugh were contagious. It may have been the most memorable part of her, was her contagious expression of happiness and laughter. I looked up to her. Dr. Kaufman made me excited to be in class, to the point where I looked forward to being there because I knew what she would teach me that day I would love. I miss her.

Carolyn visited our writing group back in 2012, and she was an exceptional guest--so vibrant, fun, and generous. Although I only had the pleasure of trading emails and spending an afternoon with her, she was endearing. Heartfelt prayers for her family. A lovely, multi-talented lady, who left a meaningful, lasting impression.

Even through distance learning, Dr. Kaufman was an amazing professor who was my first college experience. It is because of her that I decided I loved going to college and that Psychology was the right choice. I never met her in person and I deeply regret that. Even so, I am saddened by her loss and can only imagine how much deeper that hurt goes for those fortunate enough to have known her.

Dr. Kaufman was an amazing teacher. She helped me a lot with PTSD and was able to link me up with a great psychologist to help me deal with PTSD. Her love for her profession and her students was unmeasurable. She always greeted everyone with her warm and amazing smile that always cheered up your day, no matter how bad it was.

Carolyn was one of the most inspiring people I've ever met. As a new faculty member at CSCC, I looked to Carolyn for guidance and support, and she was always willing to answer my tedious questions. I am learning more and more about her as her friends and colleagues from all over the country share their condolences and it is truly awe-inspiring how much of a contribution she made to this world in her lifetime. I wish I had more time to spend with you, Carolyn. I will remember you driving that awesome red car of yours with your sunglasses on and it will always make me smile....I pray that you are in peace. My deepest condolences to family and loved ones.

I am stunned and extremely saddened at this news and send my deepest condolences and sympathies to her entire family. I had the joy of knowing her for several years through a mailing list and APA, and then was able to meet her two different years in San Diego, and one year in Atlanta, many years ago. She was so encouraging when it came to writing and generous with her knowledge of computer graphics. I will definitely miss her.

I met Carolyn 8 years ago when I became a psychology faculty member at CSCC. We became close friends when we started working together. How wonderful to find her, an amazing colleague and friend. My family loved her dearly and my house is filled with pictures that she took. I planned on spending my career down the hall from her. Carolyn was creative, motivated, considerate, humble, kind, encouraging, and beautiful. She created an assignment that she called the Kindness Experiment. She asked students to spend one day being extraordinarily kind to every person they encountered and then to write about their day, how people reacted, and how they felt. Over the years, hundreds of CSCC students completed this assignment with many instructors assigning it in their classes. So many students reported improving family relationships, resolving work conflicts, making more money, and simply feeling better about themselves and their lives. I like to think that this is a perfect example of the lasting impression she has made on her students, friends, and colleagues. I will miss working with Carolyn, calling her to talk about our lives, seeing her love my children, and eating spaghetti dinners at her house.

Several years ago Carolyn asked me to beta read her science fiction novel. It was an amazing novel but I was worried the tragic ending would make it a hard sell. Carolyn responded that she understood that, but she was leaving the ending the way it was because it was real, and real life sometimes has unhappy endings.
I am reminded of those very words as I try and wrap my mind around the tragic loss the world will suffer from the absence of this beautiful, intelligent woman. Carolyn, you will be sorely missed.
