Dodge Joe B. Dodge, 89, died Tuesday morning, November 26, 2013 at the Inn at Halcyon surrounded by his loving family after a long struggle with cancer. He was a retired farmer. A lifelong resident of Jerome Township, Joe farmed the land that his forefather's settled in the early 1800's while working at Scott's. A graduate of New California High School and an avid sportsman, he was a member of the Union County Basketball Championship Team in 1942. He joined the US Marine Corps in 1942, and rose to the rank of Corporal. He engaged in combat on Cape Glouster, New Britain, and Pelilieu Island, and was also assigned to some of the occupation of Guadalcanal. He was exceptionally proud of his service to his country and spoke at a very long list of schools during Veteran's Day and Memorial Day events over the years. Joe was born September 9, 1924 in Jerome Township to the late Homer and Lucille Watts Dodge. He was also preceded in passing by brothers Thomas, Amer and Richard, and a sister Virginia. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Karen Evans Dodge whom he married July 20, 1974 in Marysville; sons, Wayne (Margie) Dodge, Leland (Anita) Dodge and Daniel (Valerie) Dodge; step-son, David (Carolyn) Bean; seven grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; a brother, Jim Dodge; many nieces and nephews; and fellow Marine George Peto. Calling hours will be held Friday from 2-7 p.m. at the INGRAM FUNERAL HOME, where funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday. Burial will follow at Jerome Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Joe's memory to Loving Care Hospice, Wounded Warriors, or Disabled Veterans, in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be expressed at
