Benjamin Franklin Holland Obituary
Holland Benjamin Franklin Holland - It is with great sadness that the family of Benjamin Franklin Holland announces his passing on January 30, 2014, after a courageous four year battle with lymphoma. At the age of 84 years, he went peacefully to meet his Lord and Savior. He was born on July 19, 1929 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He attended Howard University, graduating in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy. He relocated to Columbus, Ohio and served in the United States Army. He received his Master's Degree in Health Administration in 1971 from Washington University. Benjamin began his career as a staff pharmacist at Ohio State University Hospital, becoming a supervisor in 1958. He was Assistant Director of Pharmacy at Grant Hospital, became an Associate Administrator followed by Director of Internal Operations and a Senior Vice President at Grant Medical Center. He then served as Director of Pharmacy Services at Doctors Hospital as well as a staff pharmacist. He served as President of the Board of Trustees of the Isabelle Ridgway Care Center, one of many boards and committees throughout the city of Columbus during his lifetime. He was a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Alpha Rho Lambda Chapter. He was a founding member of The Good Shepherd Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon as well as Chairman of the Deacon Board. Benjamin was a servant heart who put his Christian faith, daily, into practice. He enjoyed attending the Ohio State Buckeyes games, spending time with friends and family, and visiting his grandchildren in Toronto, Canada. Survived by his second wife of 15 years, Jacquelin (Jaci); only son, Mark (Marcia); beloved grandchildren, Courtney and Nicholas; sister-in-law, Faye (Tilman); niece, Kelli Tate (Keith); nephew, Dean; step-son, David (Joanne); and step-grandchildren, Edward and William; sister, Mary Halliday; and brother, Arthur Drummond (Barbara). Preceded in death by his beloved first wife of 37 years Marion E. Holland, and his sister-in-law Virginia J. Rile. Visitation will be held Friday, February 7, 2014 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 N. High St., Worthington, OH. A Celebration of Ben's life will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. at The Good Shepherd Baptist Church, 1555 E. Hudson St., Columbus, OH 43211 with Rev. Tatum officiating.
