Dr. McGinnis was one of the best musicians I've known in my career. He was extremely influential in my life and a wonderful role model. And he was just as outstanding and superior as a human being. I feel like a part of me is gone. He will be missed. Heaven is blessed to have such a wonderful person making music and leading the way.

My deepest condolences. I remember hearing Dr McGinnis practice (flute and clarinet...I didn't know much about these instruments at that time, but I knew he was an excellent musician) and see him in his beloved garden. He was truly a profound presence in the neighborhood. I know this has been a tough year for you, with the loss of Mrs McGinnis just a few months ago. We all know he lived a long, full life, but the loss is profound. All my best.

Our sincerest condolences to the family. Don was an amazing gentleman. As a musician myself, I always marveled at his musical accomplishments...an incredible legacy. I remember seeing him together with Hal, Sr. - my Grandfather Mac - playing music together on a few occasions, when I was very young. His life should be celebrated.

Dr. McGinnis is the one conductor I always wished I could have played under. I knew many that did and only had the highest praise and respect for him. Although his passing brings sadness, we should be proud of such a legend and leader being at The Ohio State University. His greatness touched many. If you need US Marine bugler to play "TAPS" at his service, please let me know. I'll be there in full dress blues.

Martha, I am so grateful in my heart that your father was my teacher. I will always remember him. I wish I could come to the visitation but I can't because I'm in rehab. I broke my ankle in three places. My deepest sympathy to you and your family and friends .

I first met Dr. McGinnis when I joined the OSU Concert Band in 1964. He became the most inspirational person in my life. I only saw him a few times since I graduated in 1968, but the memories were present every day since then. With every memory came a new shot of encouragement and inspiration. Every day for 48 years! Way over 15,000 and I am sure that hundreds, if not thousands feel the same way. What a blessing to have known him and what a gift to the world was his life!

Dr. McGinnis was such a positive influence on my life. My sincere condolences to his family. In the early-mid 1960's I played alto saxophone in his exceptional concert band. What a privilege that was. After graduating I only saw him one time and that was at a Flute Convention in Phoenix quite a long time ago now. It was just the best surprise ever to see him that day. In the years since OSU I had become a flutist. He and I reminisced about those years when I was in his concert band. He was one the most important influences on me during my years in college. Thanks from my heart.
