David Katterhenrich Obituary
David L. Katterhenrich, 76, of Crestline, died Monday, July 10, 2017 at Crestline Nursing Center, Crestline, after a short illness. Dave was born in Greenville, on December 3, 1940 to the late Emanuel J. "EJ" and Forrest E. (Wilson) Katterhenrich. He married Deborah K. (Hefner) Katterhenrich on December 17, 1978, and she survives him. Dave was a secondary Health, Physical Education and OWE teacher for forty-five years at various central and southeast Ohio schools. Dave played varsity football as a fullback at The Ohio State University under Woody Hayes from 1960-1962. He was part of the National Championship Team in 1961, and a member of the Varsity O. Later, Dave was drafted by the Cleveland Browns. Dave enjoyed fishing, hunting and flower gardening. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Kelly Katterhenrich, Grove City, Kassy (Mike) Boso, Grove City, Dennis (Stephanie) Katterhenrich, Athens, Matthew (Erin) Katterhenrich, London, Luke Katterhenrich, Grove City; his grandchildren, Nicholas Boso, Holly Boso, Anthony Boso, James Katterhenrich, Auzlynd Katterhenrich, Keaton Katterhenrich, Haley Clark, and Addison Katterhenrich; sister-in-law, Alice Katterhenrich, Grove City; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother Paul Katterhenrich. Friends may call Friday, July 14, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the SCHEIDER-GOMPF FUNERAL HOME, 223 West Main St., Crestline, where a memorial service will immediately follow at 8 p.m. on Friday with Pastor Diana Seaman officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to either to the Nationwide Children's Hospital or Arthur James Cancer Hospital, both of Columbus. Coach Katterhenrich was my coach and my mentor, and I, as well as all the guys who ever played for him, was taught by him, and knew him, looked upon him as their hero. He was only in my life for 2 years when he was at Westfall, but, like my good friend Gene Carfrey stated, Coach had a way about him to bring the best out of you. The twinkle in his eyes, his great sense of humor, and the way he treated you, made you want to be a better everything than you were. My sincere thoughts and prayers to his family for this great loss. I think of him often, especially at this time of year when football season begins. My intentions were to contact him and congratulate him for his induction into the Hall of Fame, that I only learned of yesterday. I was blown away to find out about his passing. Coach's memory will live with me until I take my last breath. He is now still running the 3 yards and a cloud of dust offense on the almighty's first team, and Woody is right there with him, urging him on. Rest in Peace Coach!

Coach Kat will not ever be forgotten. He was my Coach at Federal Hocking who taught me how to overcome adversity. He was an amazing coach and an even greater man. My condolences to the family.

So sorry for your loss, was a great teacher I had him at Central high in 74-75, and then later on in years much to my surprise he was my son's teacher at Fed Hocking. Rest in peace and may God comfort your family. Ida Collins

Mr Katt. Was my health teacher at Central High School. I am deeply sorry for your families loss. I have often thought of him over the years. . I loved having him as a teacher in the 71-72 school year . To me he was a hero. He protected our class during the riot that was happening that year. I'll never forget him... may he rest in peace. ... Dave and Paul Keltner were huge influences in my life. They're the reason I went into education. Much of what I learned from Dave I still use in coaching today. His legacy lives on through that conduit. Thanks for everything Coach Kat!

I only know stories of him from working with his son Dennis but he sounded like a great man. And judging by his son he was indeed a great man. My condolences to all his loved ones.
