PONTOTOC – Agnes Cain Webster, 96, died Thursday, March 20, 2014. She was born Feb 18, 1918, in Sarepta to Barney and Emma Hill Cain. She married Ernest Webster on July 12, 1941. She lived in many places before living her last years in Oregon. She worked in a munitions plant in New Jersey during World War II and moved to Gulfport with her husband and young son in 1945. In 1955, they moved to the San Fernando Valley in California and then in 1959 to Roseburg, Ore., when her husband was transferred to a position at VA Hospital. After he retired in 1977 they moved back to Pontotoc and built the home where she lived until she moved to Eugene, Ore., in 2005 to live with her daughter and her husband, Linda and Frank Van Cleave. She worked as a certified nurse's aide for 34 years, with 16 years at Graceland in Pontotoc. She loved gardening and her family. Her calm spirit and strength will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her brother, Dean Cain of Gulfport; daughters, Linda Van Cleave and husband, Frank Van Cleave, Debbie Trotter and husband, Rod Trotter, and Sherry Rutledge and husband Randy Rutledge; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest, on April 26, 1998; two sons, Ernie and Chester; and a grandson, Samuel Webster Van Cleave.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, April 4, at Turnpike Baptist Church with Bro. Pete Gregory officiating. Baldwin-Nowell Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
