TUPELO – Boualanh Hiangphothichack, 75, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at his residence following a brief illness. He was born Feb. 1, 1938, to Hiang and Kong in Napho, Lao, where he grew up farming rice fields with his family. As a young man, he served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War
. He married Thongsy in August 1964 and after returning home from the war they moved to North Mississippi where they made their home. He worked as a press operator for Super Sagless Corp. from 1979 to 2001 upon which time he retired. He was a member of the Laos Club and the American Legion. He was a great outdoorsman and enjoyed farming, working in his garden, and fishing with fishnets that he made. He was of the Buddhist faith.
A Buddhist funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, in Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today and from noon to service time Saturday.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Thongsy Hiangphothichack of Tupelo; one son, Van Hiangphothichack (Kathy) of Tupelo; one daughter, Christy Gray (Brandon) of Tupelo; four grandchildren, Seth Hiangphothichack, Andrew Gray, Lance Gray and Brittany Hiangphothichack; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.
