Boualanh Hiangphothichack(1938 - 2014)

TUPELO – Boualanh Hiangphothichack, 75, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at his residence following a brief illness. He was born Feb. 1, 1938, to Hiang and Kong in Napho, Lao, where he grew up farming rice fields with his family. As a young man, he served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He married Thongsy in August 1964 and after returning home from the war they moved to North Mississippi where they made their home. He worked as a press operator for Super Sagless Corp. from 1979 to 2001 upon which time he retired. He was a member of the Laos Club and the American Legion. He was a great outdoorsman and enjoyed farming, working in his garden, and fishing with fishnets that he made. He was of the Buddhist faith.
A Buddhist funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, in Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today and from noon to service time Saturday.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Thongsy Hiangphothichack of Tupelo; one son, Van Hiangphothichack (Kathy) of Tupelo; one daughter, Christy Gray (Brandon) of Tupelo; four grandchildren, Seth Hiangphothichack, Andrew Gray, Lance Gray and Brittany Hiangphothichack; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.
