Carl Armstrong(1948 - 2017)

Mr. Bernice "Carl" Armstrong 68, lifelong resident of Tupelo, and husband of Wanda Hartley Armstrong, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at North MS Medical Center in Tupelo after an extended illness.

Carl was born on September 13, 1948, to Mary Dorothy Goggans and Bernice Elmore Armstrong. He was a graduate of Tupelo High School. Mr. Armstrong was a member of East Heights Baptist Church. He worked in construction for most of his life with a highlight being his participation in the restoration of Hundred Oaks Castle in Winchester, TN.

Carl coached boys' soccer and baseball as long as his two boys played. He then ventured into coaching girls' soccer until his health took him away from the sport he loved so much. Known for his story telling and jokes, he loved spending time with family and friends, especially his granddaughter, Bailey Kathryn, that he loved so much. Carl loved cookouts and ballgames, and would challenge anyone to a game of checkers. Because of his love and compassion for people, especially children, he was always willing to help anyone in need, which resulted in his 20 years of coaching youth soccer and being a mentor for many children.

A celebration of Carl's life will be at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 29, 2017 in the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Paul Kent Bramlett officiating assisted by Rep. Steve Holland. Private burial will be at Lee Memorial Park. Visitation will be today (Saturday) from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to service time.
