Doris Monaghan Malone

PALESTINE – Doris Evelyn Monaghan Malone, 87, died Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo after an extended illness. She was born in the Nettleton area on Aug. 31, 1926, to Johnny Clinton ""Kenny"" and Daisy Scribner Monaghan. She grew up in the Nettleton/Plantersville area, graduated from Plantersville High School in 1944 and married her husband, Marion Malone, on Aug. 15, 1953. A Navy wife for 22 years, she lived in Key West, Fla., and Annapolis, Md., for brief periods of time during her husband's career but returned to her native area where she worked for 16 years for South Central Bell. She was a housewife all her life, a Navy man's wife for 22 years, and a barber and farmer's wife for 27 years. She was a devoted mother, a doting and caring grandmother and great-grandmother affectionately known as ""MawMaw"" and a loving and supportive community and church person all her life. A Baptist, she was a longtime member at Palestine Baptist Church but had attended Chesterville Baptist Church with her family the last four years. She loved her family and the land on which she raised them. Down to earth, she was known for her soft spoken, charming personality, sweet smile, and her always positive and optimistic attitude.
A service celebrating her life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 13, at Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Sammy Coker and Bro. Mike Brazeal officiating. Private burial will be in the Plantersville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. to service time on Friday, all at the Tupelo Chapel.
Survivors include her three sons, Pat (Sandra) Malone and Mike (Gail) Malone, all of Nettleton, and Mark (Jill) Malone of Seattle, Wash.; four grandchildren, Chris (Telissa) Malone of Nettleton, Nikki (Michael) Roebuck of Nettleton, Taylor Malone of Seattle, Wash., and Amber Jenkins of Plantersville; 10 great-grandchildren, Peighton, Christin, Colton and Kealeigh Malone, Owen, Hayes, Grady and Griffin Roebuck, all of Nettleton, Zoe Wright of Tupelo and Cash Christian of Nettleton; her brother, David E. Monaghan Sr. of Plantersville; and several nieces and nephews on the Monaghan and Malone sides. She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenny Monaghan in 1928 and Daisy Monaghan in 2006; her husband, Robert Marion Malone, in 1994; a daughter, Deborah, in 1954; and numerous in-laws.
Pallbearers will be Jon Paul Barber, Matthew Barber, Bondo Williams, Chris Malone, Michael Roebuck and Jake Brazeal.
