TUPELO – Emory O. Thompson Jr., 63, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013. He was born Sept. 3, 1950, to Orville and Faye Turner Thompson. He was a deacon at Union Grove Family Worship Center in Mooreville and a retired 26-year veteran who formerly served in Amberg, Germany, during The Vietnam War
and stateside with the 155th Armored Brigade of the Mississippi Army National Guard. He was the owner/operator of Thompson A/C & Appliance Repair, which he ran for 16 years. Prior to that, he worked at Vend-Foods for 20 years. He was also a veteran of the Gulf War.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, at Union Grove Family Worship Center with Pastor Ryan Napalo and the Rev. Wayne Thorn officiating. Burial will be in the Union Grove Cemetery with military honors. McNeece-Morris Funeral Home of Mantachie is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Sybil Funderburk Thompson; his daughter, Donja Bland (Terry) of Senatobia; his son, Jay Thompson (Suzanne) of Monticello; three grandsons, Casey Thompson (fiancée, Mary Kathryn Callender), Evan Thompson and Aaron Thompson, all of Monticello; three brothers, John Thompson, Jerry Thompson and Jeff Thompson, all of Shiloh; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Kevin Funderburk, Brian Thompson, Tracy Thompson, Matthew Thompson, Casey Thompson and Evan Thompson.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the church.
