ENDVILLE – James ""Thomas"" Simmons, 79, died Saturday, April 5, 2014, at Darlington Oaks in Verona. He was born Sept. 22, 1934, to Carl and Ruby Simmons. Before his health failed, his favorite past time was camping and spending time with family.
A celebration of life service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, at Baldwin Nowell Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Bobby Holland and Bro. Don McCutchen officiating. Burial will be in Pontotoc Memorial Gardens in Pontotoc. Baldwin Nowell Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Bedford Simmons; four daughters, Patricia ""Pat"" Wilson (Robert) of Brewer, Barbara Bryant of Bruce, Martha Dye (Wayne) of Belden and Susan Short (Jeff) of Furrs; six grandchildren, Tiffany Vaughn (Will) of Shannon, Amanda Schulz (Paul) of Fort Wayne, Ind., Chris DeVall of Bruce, Melissa Parker (Keith) of Bruce, Nic Dye of Belden and Emily Short of Furrs; eight great-grandchildren, Brooke, Eli, Owen, Justin, Lane, Braden, Kennon and Miles; and two sisters, Evelyn Sappington and Doris Brandon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and son-in-law, Steve Bryant.
Pallbearers are Chris DeVall, Nic Dye, Keith Parker, Will Vaughn, Paul Schulz, Phil Sappington, Jimmy Sappington and Greg Sappington.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
