Mertha Shumpert Ruff

NETTLETON – Mertha Shumpert Ruff, 81, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, at Golden Living Center in Amory. She was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Her life celebration service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. The Rev. Glen Parks will officiate, and the Rev. Terry L. Carr will deliver the eulogy. Interment with military honors will be in the church cemetery. Grayson-Porter's Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by her seven sons, Donald (Margert) Shumpert of San Fraco, Calf., Fredrick Shumpert of Lambard, Ill., Jessie E. Shumpert of Detroit, Mich., Timothy Ruff of Nettleton, Richard D. Ruff of Gary, Ind., Craig (Christine) Ruff of Wheaton, Ill., Eric F. Ruff of Radio City, Calif.; three brothers, John Luther (Grace) Shumpert of Jacksonville, Fla., Otis Shumpert of Nettleton and Robert Lee Shumpert of Pinacola, Fla.; four sisters, Clanzine Dunwood of Fulton, Exie L. Muhammad of Tupelo, Lois Teen Gray of Nettleton and Cedra A. Muhammad of Tupelo; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Andy and Dessie Roberts Shumpert; one son; Marcus Ruff; four sisters, Willie Mae Mills, Flora Williamson, Gennie Davis, Sarah Ray; and two brothers, Charlie P. Shumpert and LeRoy Shmpert.
Viewing will be at the J.W. Porter's Chapel, Tuesday 3 until 5 p.m. today and at the church one hour prior to service on Wednesday.
