Robert Owen Russell Sr.(1939 - 2014)

MYRTLE – Robert Owen Russell Sr., 74, died Sunday, March 16, 2014, at his residence. He was born to Robert Wesson and Nan Owen Russell on March 21, 1939. He grew up in New Albany and graduated from New Albany High School in 1957. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He owned Russell's Insurance Agency, and he was a member of Myrtle United Methodist Church.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday March 19, at United Funeral Service with Bro. Eugene Stockstill officiating. Burial will be in Vista Memorial Park. United Funeral Service of New Albany is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Peggy Spencer Russell; two sons, Bob Russell (Beth) of Myrtle and Jim Russell (Betty) of New Albany; one sister, Martha Strawn (Jimmy) of New Albany; three grandchildren, Kim, Audri and Brady; two brothers-in-law, Graham Spencer (Sarah) and Gray Spencer (Alice); nieces, Kathy and Amy; nephews, David, Chris, Scott and Nolan; and a very close friend, Sandra Verrell and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his in-laws, Henry and Ruth Spencer.
Pallbearers will be Alan Cousar, Elvis Thomas, Henry Potts, Hugh Tate, Evan Denton, Bobby Shirley, Larry Koon and Allen McDaniel. Honorary pallbearers will be New Albany High School Class of 1957 and members of the Joy Sunday school class.
The family request that memorials be made to Joy Sunday School Class, Myrtle United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 148, Myrtle, MS 38650.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
In honor of Mr. Russell's service to his country, United Funeral Service will fly the U.S. Army flag during his visitation and service.
