TISHOMINGO – Thomas Doyle Ozbirn, 67, died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, at his residence. He was born Oct. 3, 1946, in Golden. He was retired after 20 years of service in the U.S. Air Force
. He first enlisted after high school in 1964 and re-entered as a commissioned officer upon his graduation from Ole Miss in 1980. He wrote code for the Strategic Air Command's alert system that is still in use today. His department supported operations in Desert Storm from which they received commendations for their efforts. He retired from Jackson County from the Computer Department.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 9, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Belmont with Bro. Dwight South and Perry Young officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery at Tishomingo. Deaton Funeral Home of Belmont is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors are his wife, Jettie Mae Ozbirn of Tishomingo; one son, Kevin Zeth Ozbirn of Tishomingo; mother, Carlee Nunley of Iuka; one sister, Sherry Holloway (Norman) of Iuka; two brothers, Jimmy Nunley (Judy) and Michael Nunley, all of Tishomingo; and two grandsons, Julian and Trooper.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hilton Ozbirn, and his stepfather, Treman Nunley.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Deaton Funeral Home in Belmont and until service time on Monday.
