Vernell Coggin McCollum

NETTLETON – Vernell Coggin McCollum, 77, died suddenly Sunday, June 1, 2014, at Hanover Hospital in Hanover, Pa. She was born on March 1, 1937, in Lee County to George and Lenora Griffin Coggin. She had lived most all of her life in Nettleton and was a graduate of Nettleton High School in 1955 and was a member of the girl's high school basketball team. She was a group manager for AT&T before retiring after 32 years of service and was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 6, at the Chapel of Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Nettleton with the Rev. Aubrey Boren and the Rev. Sammy Coker officiating. Burial will be in Palestine Cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Sandra McCollum Malone (Pat) of Nettleton; one son, Mike McCollum of Nettleton; her brother and sisters–in-law, Eunice Coggin of Amory, Agnes McCollum of Tupelo, Paul and Betty McCollum of Guntown, Buddy and Pearlie McCollum of Tupelo; four grandchildren, Chris Malone (Teece), Nikki Malone Roebuck (Michael), Justin McCollum, Tiffani McCollum; nine great-grandchildren, Peighton, Christin, Colton and Kealeigh Malone, Jess Whitehead, Owen, Hayes, Grady and Griffin Roebuck; and a special friend, Marvin Reichart.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy R. McCollum; her parents; one brother, Charles Coggin; one brother-in-law, Bobby McCollum.
Pallbearers will be Chris Malone, Justin Malone, Michael Roebuck, Jeff Martin, Kevin Cooley and Mike King.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 9p.m. at the funeral home.
