MANTACHIE – William Sidney Trammel, 91, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2014, at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco, Texas. He was a proud veteran of World War II
, having served in the 10th Armored Division in Europe where he earned both the Bronze Star
and the Purple Heart
. He graduated from Mississippi State University and had a long career teaching in the R1 School District in Jefferson County, Mo. He was a committed Christian and faithful church member.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, at McNeece–Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie with the Rev. David Trammel officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Center Star Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Florence Lanell Trammel of Hewitt, Texas; his sons, William Trammel Jr. of Hewitt, Texas, and David Trammel (Debra Ingrum Trammel) of Smyrna, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Traci Doty (Scott) of Dallas, Texas, Erin Trammel of Elmira Heights, N.Y., Katie Waggoner (James) of Smyrna, Tenn., and Joy Tanksley (Charlie) of Atlanta, Ga.; four great-grandchildren, David Maxwell and Angayla Maxwell, both of Smyrna, Tenn., Todd Doty of Dallas, Texas, and Sidney Tanksley of Atlanta, Ga.; a brother, Edwin Trammel (Betty) of Tupelo; and a sister, Virginia Watson of Enterprise, Ala.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Aurelia Sheffield Trammel; and two sisters, Mary (Bobby) Davis and Villa Mae (Ralph) Leech.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.
