SALTILLO – Bobby Ray Jones, 82, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013, at Autumn Leaves Alz-heimer's and Dementia Care Facility in Rockwall, Texas, following an extended illness. He was born Nov. 13, 1931, in Dallas, Texas, to Caleb Jones and Rena Buchanan Jones. He attended Texas A&M University, where he earned a degree in Animal Husbandry. He served his country in the U.S. Army and Army National Guard. He lived in Tupelo the past 43 years, where he spent most of his career working for Action Industries, serving many years as Executive Vice President of Corporate Services before retiring. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and affectionately known as ""PopPop"" by his grandchildren. Bobby was a Christian and active member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, where he held various leadership roles. He served as a member of the Tupelo Community Concert Board, Mississippi Economic Development Council, and American Red Cross of Northeast Mississippi Board. He was a man of great character and dignity whose smile and personality are legendary.|
A celebration of life service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at St. Luke United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Rick Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in Lee Memorial Park. Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors.
Survivors include his wife, Ilda Ballard Jones of Saltillo; his daughter, Jeanne Elizabeth Jones and her child, Lauren Young Warrick, and husband, Nick, of Spokane, Wash.; his son, Frank Kirk Jones and his wife, Robin, and their children, Kirk Jones, Kyle Jones, Kathleen Jones and Kristine Jones, all of Rockwall, Texas; sister, Sue Babb of Wichita Falls, Texas; Ilda's daughter, Kaye Cannon, and husband, Fred, and their children, Leigh Michael Cannon and Anna Ballard; and Ilda's son, Tom Ballard, and his wife, Celynn, and children, Thomas Ballard and Kate Ballard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Caleb Jones; his wife of 50 years and the mother of Jeanne and Frank, Margaret Flesher Jones, who died in 2002; and his brother, David Jones.
Pallbearers will be Curtis Buskirk, Leon Cochran, Larry Coggin, Tommy Harris, Fred Strange and John Vaughn. Honorary pallbearers will be the Tom Ballard family, Tom Barnett, the Fred Cannon family, Clifford Flesher, the Friendship Sunday School Class at St. Luke UMC, Ken Kellerman, George Watson, and Robert Young.
