PONTOTOC – Carl George Wood, 64, formerly of Helmer, Idaho, passed away Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at his home in Pontotoc. He was born April 30, 1949, in Moscow, Idaho, to Glenn George Wood and Lois May Lancaster. He played football for and graduated from Deary High School. He joined the Air Force immediately following high school and served in the Vietnam War, spending time in Thailand and Vietnam as a helicopter crew chief. He returned to civilian life and married. From that union came one son, John Glenn Wood. He later divorced and returned to military service in the U.S. Army for three years during which he remarried. Three children, Katharine, Damien and Carl A. Wood came from that union. He retired from the New Cumberland Army Depot and several trucking jobs before settling in Pontotoc to be near family. He was a member of the VFW Post 5395 in Pontotoc.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc.
Survivors include his sons, John Glenn Wood of Batavia, N.Y., and Damien M. Wood (fiancee, Mindy Roush) and Carl A. Wood (Christina); daughter, Katharine Mitchell (Ethan); 14 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Larry L. Wood.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Friday.
